Leeds Holbeck

46cm x 74cm oil on canvas.

Leeds Holbeck was one of the most evocative steam depots in the North of England, a double Roundhouse originally built to supply motive power for the ‘Midland Railway’ and finally closed to Steam in 1967, in this scene based about 1963 a visiting Fowler 4F 44426 moves onto one of the turntables on a typical busy morning as both a ‘Black 5’ 44983 and opposite a Britannia are both ready to move outside ready for their next booked turn of duty.
