Ken describes some more humorous footplate tales and experiences with some colorful characters he used to work with.
But after steam ended on the main line in the UK, there was still plenty to be found elsewhere in Europe, particularly France and surprisingly Austria.
Very few pictures have been published covering this area we visited, and where possible we have employed our stylized and creative slant, which to my knowledge has never been deployed on foreign steam photography at that time.
We also take a look at the industrial scenes to be found in County Durham and the Northumberland Coal Field, finishing with some early Return to Steam images of the late 70s and early 80s of steam in the northern Fells.
The Format will be the same as Vol 1 but with more pages!
